Very Nice Rare Antique German Black Forest Euramca Unusual 3 Bird Cuckoo Clock

We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally impressive collection of music boxes and other very nice antique and vintage collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our. This is an excellent, rare find of a beautiful, uniquely designed mechanical cuckoo clock that was created about 75 years ago in the Black Forest of "Germany" for the Euramca Trading Corp. Actually, the Euramce Trading Corp did a great deal to popularize the modern cuckoo clock by organizing quickly at the end of WWII and doing all they could to put one of their high quality clocks into the hands of returning GI's after the war and getting all others exported to the US.

My father brought one home and I remember it to this day. The clock is ornately detailed, and has some of the finest, wavy old-world carvings I've seen in a long time and an equally rare blended walnut finish with lots of color! It is an impressive size too measuring about 14" high (not counting the weights or pendulum), about 6" at its deepest point, and about 10 1/2 at its widest point. The clock is well preserved and carved from cured and aged Linden wood which is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. The clock front is designed to look like an intricate grape vine and adorned with seven nicely carved wooden grape leaves and vines; very nice! There is a beautifully carved colorful wooden bird perched to the right of the dial looking and another equally impressive bird is perched to the left of the dial. Both are looking upward at an even larger, carved bird perched atop the clock looking as though he is ready to take flight. The dial has a black backdrop and features raised white Roman numerals to mark the hours and a rare pair of matching, fancy, wooden hands to point out the time. The back door is wood too and secured with a metal latch. It removes to allow access to the all metal, early, mechanical, weight driven, movement created by "Regula" and bearing the Euramca Trading Corp name and Germany point of origin. A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock and cuckoo activity.

The tall wooden bellow or whistle tubes are intact and the tops look good and make good sound. At the bottom of each hour, a colorful bird opens the small door above the dial and stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a coiled cathedral chime inside the case and then retreats back inside and closes the door. The bird reappears at the top of the hour and correctly cuckoos and chimes the current hour before going back inside the case and closing the door behind him; absolutely fascinating!

The clock works just fine here, keeps good time, and cuckoos well too. Keep in mind this is an old clock and we don't know the service history though the movement does show signs of past maintenance. Nonetheless, we always advise our clock customers to service their vintage or antique clocks at least once every three years.

Doing so will preserve a classic clock like this one and keep it running strong for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a fancy, hand carved wooden grape leaf pendulum, and two heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. I've looked the clock over fairly well and discovered only an old repair on the upper frame but that's about it. Overall, the clock has a stunning patina, shows quite well, and is just gorgeous on display!

This clock is a wonderful look back at the greatness of Black Forest workmanship and is certain to capture the imagination of anyone seeing or hearing it in your home, office or wherever it is that you care to showcase a magnificent, very unique, antique mechanical Black Forest timepiece with a solid history behind it.
