Rare German 3 Bird Cherry Mahogany Black Forest Cuckoo Clock In Original Box

We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally impressive collection of music boxes and other very nice antique and vintage collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our.

This is an outstanding find of a beautiful, rare, lightly used, deeply hand carved, mechanical cuckoo clock that was created about 35 years ago in the Black Forest of "Triberg, Germany" by "Hubert Herr, " one of the finest clock makers in this region of the world. The clock has a rare three bird case that is unique to Hubert Herr, comes with the original box, and has an equally rare cherry mahogany finish! According to Reinhard Herr (Hubert's Grandson), this clock is carved from cured and aged Linden wood which is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest.

It was created to look like an intricately carved grape vine complete with seven, ornately hand carved grape leaves on the front, fancy branches, and another carved grape leaf is found on the wooden pendulum. The clock has a large, beautifully carved bird perched to the left of the dial and another, equally impressive carved wooden bird is perched to the right. Both are staring outward as if on guard while a more complex bird perched in the branches atop the clock looks as though he's ready to take flight. The dial has a black backdrop and features raised Roman numerals to mark the hours and matching fancy hands to point out the time.

The country name, "Germany" is found under the center. The back is wood too and secured with a metal latch.

It removes to allow access to the all metal, mechanical, weight driven movement inside the case that was produced by Hubert Herr and bears his name as well as the Triberg, Germany point of origin. A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock and cuckoo activity. The whistle or bellow tubes are intact and make good sound. A t the bottom of each hour, a colorful bird opens the small door above the dial and stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a coiled cathedral chime inside the case and then retreats back inside and closes the door.

The bird reappears at the top of the hour and correctly cuckoos and chimes the current number of hours and then goes back inside the case and closes the door behind him; fascinating! The clock works quite well here, keeps good time, and cuckoos quite well too. Keep in mind this is an old clock and we don't know the service history so some service or adjustments may be necessary once it arrives at its new home. The movement does show signs of past maintenance but nonetheless, we always advise our clock customers to service their vintage or antique clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preserve a classic clock like this one and keep it running strong for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a hand carved wooden grape leaf pendulum, full instructions for set up and operation in English, German, Spanish, and French, the original box and packaging, and two heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. Ive looked the clock over fairly well and cant find any missing pieces or damage and very little signs of use. It is a remarkably stunning clock and just gorgeous on display! The clock is an impressive size too measuring about 12 1/2" high (not counting the weights or pendulum), about 6" at its deepest point, and about 9 across the top. This clock would be the focal point in any collection and is certain to impress anyone seeing it in your home, office or wherever it is that you care to showcase a magnificent, mechanical German timepiece with a solid history behind it.
