Nice Working Black Forest German David Hones Mountain Chalet Cuckoo Clock

This is an excellent find of a remarkable, unique, working mountain chalet cuckoo clock that was created about 30 years ago in the Black Forest of "Titisee-Neustadt, Germany" by David "Hones, " one of the more innovative clock makers in this region of the world. The clock is made to look like the old mountain chalets of yesteryear in the Swiss/German Alps. It is constructed mainly of cured and aged Linden wood and has a carved roof and sides. The clock features hand carved trim just under the roof eaves on either side of a wooden balcony located just above the dial.

The lower balcony in front is also hand carved and features a large, hand carved Pine tree to the left and a wooden well and trough to the right. The wooden dial has a black backdrop and features Roman numerals to mark the hours and matching fancy hands to point out the time. The back is wood too and secured with a metal latch. The back removes to allow access to the all metal, mechanical, weight driven movement inside the case that was produced by "Regula" and bears the D Hones name and Germany point of origin. A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock and cuckoo activity. The bellow or whistle tubes look good and sound good too. At the bottom of each hour, a colorful bird opens the small wooden door above the dial and stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a coiled cathedral chime inside the case and then retreats back inside and closes the door. The bird reappears at the top of the hour and correctly cuckoos and chimes the current number of hours and then goes back inside the case and closes the door behind him; absolutely fascinating! The clock works just fine here, keeps good time, cuckoos as it was designed to do. Keep in mind this is an old clock and we don't know the service history so some adjustments or service may be needed once the clock arrives at its new home. The movement does show signs of maintenance but regardless, we always advise our clock customers to service their vintage or antique clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preserve a classic clock like this one and keep it running strong for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a chalet style pendulum, the original factory instructions in English, French, German, and Spanish, and two heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. Ive looked the clock over fairly well and cant find any damage or missing pieces; maybe a nick here and there but nothing detracting. The clock is one of the most beautiful clocks you could ever hang on a wall, shows average or less signs of use, and has a wonderful look to it.

The clock is an impressive size too measuring about 8 1/2" high (not counting the weights or pendulum), about 6" at its deepest point, and about 7 1/2 across the top. This clock would be the focal point in any collection and is certain to captivate the imagination of anyone seeing or hearing it in your home, office or wherever it is that you care to showcase a very nice German timepiece with a solid history behind it.
