Very Nice Working Black Forest German Wood Mountain Chalet Cabin Cuckoo Clock
We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally impressive collection of music boxes and other very nice antique and vintage collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our.

This is a stunning, unusual, fully intact, nicely carved, working mechanical cuckoo clock that was created about 40 years ago in the Black Forest of what was then, West Germany. The clock was created from cured and aged Linden wood which is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. It was created to look like an intricate wooden mountain chalet with a deeply carved roof that makes it look very much like some of the real homes that used to dot the landscape in the Black Forest mountain region. There is an upper wooden balcony above the dial and just below a small wooden door near the top. There is a colorful spray of flowers much like a flower box on the front.

There is a window with wooden shutters and a flower box beneath on either side of the upper dial. There is a wooden balcony just below the dial and wooden trim under it and a carved backdrop as well. There is a colorful wooden tree on the left, more sprays of flowers and a colorful mushroom too. There is a wooden water trough on the right and a well pump just behind it. The dial is made of wood and has a black backdrop with raised Roman numerals to mark the hours and a pair of fancy matching hands to point out the time.

The back is wood too and secured with a metal latch. It removes to allow access to the all metal, mechanical, weight driven movement inside the case that is produced by "Regula" and bears the "West Germany" point of origin too. A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock and cuckoo activity.

The bellow or whistles look and sound good! At the bottom of each hour, a colorful bird opens the rustic door near the top in front and stands in the doorway.

He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a coiled cathedral chime inside the case and then retreats back inside and closes the door. The bird reappears at the top of the hour and correctly cuckoos and chimes the current number of hours and then goes back inside the case and closes the door behind him; fascinating! The clock works just fine here, keeps good time, and cuckoos as it was designed to do.

Keep in mind this is an old clock and we don't know the full service history though it looks to have had past maintenance. Nonetheless, some adjustments or repairs may be necessary once the clock arrives at its new home. We always advise our clock customers to service their vintage or antique clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preserve a classic clock like this one and keep it running strong for years to come.

The clock comes complete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, an unusual, wooden chalet pendulum, and two heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. Ive looked the clock over fairly well and cant find any damage or repairs and only very little signs of wear; absolutely gorgeous on display!

This is an impressive clock and the ideal size too measuring about 7 1/2" high, about 5 1/2" at its deepest point, and about 7 across the top. This clock is a collection all by itself and is certain to impress anyone seeing it in your home, office or wherever it is that you care to showcase a very nice, unusual mechanical Black Forest timepiece with a solid history behind it. If you like this item and I'm sure you do, then I know you'll love the other items.
