Stunning German Hagos Hrastnig Hunter Deer Swiss 2 Tune Music Wood Cuckoo Clock

We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally impressive collection of music boxes and other very nice antique and vintage collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our. This is an outstanding find of a very nice, lightly used, working, beautifully carved, rare musical hunter mechanical cuckoo clock that was created about 65 years ago in "Furstenfeldbruck" Bavaria "Germany" by "Hagos Hrastnig, " and marketed under their line of "Quality Clocks" as stated on the back door. Hagos is one of the most innovative and high quality clock makers to ever come from this region of the world. The carvings are outstanding, old World quality, and the case and fancy carvings have a remarkable blend of color and walnut shades; very nice!

It is an impressive size too measuring about 19 1/2" high (from the tip of the antlers to the bottom of the game bag and not counting the weights or pendulum), about 10" at its deepest point, and about 12 at its widest point. The clock looks to be carved from cured and aged Linden wood which is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. There is a deeply carved wooden rabbit mounted to the left side of the wooden dial and an equally impressive, beautifully carved, colorful game bird mounted to the right side.

The clock front is designed to look like an intricate oak tree adorned with five, deeply carved, colorful wooden oak leaves, several oak branches, as well as a carved hunting game bag with straps on the very bottom. The wooden dial has a black backdrop and features raised Roman numerals to mark the hours and a pair of matching fancy, goldtone metal hands to point out the time. There is a round Alpen horn encircling the dial complete with a mouthpiece and horn end. The top is a separate wooden carving and features a large wood deer head with antlers and two wooden shotguns mounted underneath in a criss-cross manner; very nice! The back is wood too and secured with a metal latch. There is a factory label on the back verifying the Hagos Hrastnig manufacture, Quality Clocks model, and Furstenfeldbruck Germany origin. The back removes to allow access to the metal, mechanical, weight driven movement created by Hagos. A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock, cuckoo activity, and music. The wooden bellow or whistle tubes are intact and the tops look and sound good too. At the bottom of each hour, a colorful bird opens the small wooden door to the right above the dial and stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a coiled cathedral chime inside the case and then retreats back inside and closes the door. When he is safely inside, the small wooden door to the left above the dial opens and a colorful man holding a zither appears in the doorway.

At the same time, a high quality, "Thorens, Swiss" music box plays a wonderful rendition of "Tales of Hoffmann, " a very popular tune. When the music is finished, the man goes back inside the case and closes the door. The bird reappears at the top of the hour and correctly cuckoos and chimes the current number of hours and then goes back inside the case and closes the door behind him. Then the wooden door to the left opens yet again and the man with the zither appears but this time, the Swiss music box plays a an equally nice tune called "La Paloma, " a very popular tune in every part of the world!

When the music is over, the man retreats back inside and closes the door; absolutely fascinating! There is an intact label on the left side of the case indicating the song titles, Thorens manufacture, and Swiss origin. The clock works just fine here, keeps good time, cuckoos as it was designed to, and the music is absolutely heavenly!

Keep in mind this is an old clock and we don't know the service history though the movement does show signs of maintenance. Nonetheless, we always advise our clock customers to service their vintage or antique clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preserve a classic clock like this one and keep it running strong for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with three sets of attached metal chains, a hand carved wooden oak leaf pendulum, and three heavy pinecone shaped metal weights.

Ive looked the clock over fairly well and cant find any damage or missing parts. I did find a hard to see old repair on the upper frame but overall, it shows only little signs of use and is just gorgeous on display!

This clock is a wonderful look back at the greatness of German workmanship and is certain to capture the imagination of anyone seeing or hearing it in your home, office or wherever it is that you care to showcase a magnificent, very unique, mechanical, musical timepiece with a solid history behind it.
