This is a breathtaking, rare, absolutely beautiful, mechanical cuckoo clock that was created about 135 years ago. My guess is that it was created as an expensive tourist clock for those visiting "Wien" (Vienna) "Austria" at that time. I'm pretty sure on the dating though it could be older since the weight driven movement has wooden plates, not brass like newer ones. The carvings too are all hand done and not imprinted at all. I believe the clock was once on its way to being restored since the bellows are new and I cannot find any damage, missing parts, or old repairs.

I would probably have no problems in finishing the clock but I simply don't have the time any longer to work on the old clocks like I used to. It is a very impressive, stunning old clock that measures about 14 1/2" at its highest point, about 7 1/2" deep, and about 12 or so at its widest point.

The top is a separate piece that is held in place by an old hook and eye system. The cuckoo bird is made of wood and has flapping wings. The clock does work some, ticks away but eventually stops.

I did not check it for time. I did check the bellows manually and they do cuckoo very well but like I said, the clock needs work but oh, what a project!

The sides are removable and so is the back. Looks like all hardware is present too. It comes complete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, two heavy pinecone shaped metal weights, and a carved oak leaf pendulum. My guess is that the pendulum is a replacement but it's very nice too. The clock shows beautifully and is just gorgeous on display!

This clock is a wonderful look back at the greatness of Old World workmanship and is certain to capture the imagination of anyone seeing it in your home, office or wherever it is that you care to showcase a wonderful, mechanical, antique German timepiece with a solid history behind it. Have it repaired, repair it yourself, or leave it the way it is. If you like this item and I'm sure you do, then I know you'll love the other items.
