Nice Old Working Wood Swiss Mountain Chalet Widows Walk Cabin Cuckoo Clock
We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally impressive collection of music boxes and other very nice antique and vintage collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our. This is a very nice, unusual, fully intact, nicely carved, working mechanical cuckoo clock that was created about 50 years ago in Switzerland.

The clock was created from cured and aged Linden wood which is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Swiss Alps. It was created to look like an intricate wooden mountain chalet with wooden stairs on either side and a Widow's Walk that extends from the front all the way to the rear. There is thick wooden trim and beams under the eaves and simulated boulders and timbers on the roof which is what was used on the real homes to keep the roof on during inclement weather.

There are wooden windows with wood shutters and flower boxes on either side of the upper front frame and more colorful flowers draped over a fancy wooden balcony just below the upper windows. More windows with faux flower boxes and wooden shutters are founds to either side of the dial too and both widows' walks have flowers on them from the front to the back; very nice! The main wooden balcony has a green finish and features flowered pathways from the wooden stump, kindling and logs on the left to the foot of the left staircase.

The rights side features more flowers and a short floral pathway to the base of the stairs too. There is also a wooden water trough and pump on the right side and a stack of logs under the staircase. The dial has a brown backdrop and features raised Roman numerals to mark the hours and a pair of fancy matching hands to point out the time. The back is wood too and held in place with two wire nails and secured with a metal latch. It removes to allow access to the all metal, mechanical, weight driven movement produced by Regula.

A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock and cuckoo activity. The bellow or whistles look and sound good! At the bottom of each hour, a colorful bird opens the rustic door above the dial and stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a coiled cathedral chime inside the upper balcony and then retreats back inside and closes the door. The bird reappears at the top of the hour and correctly cuckoos and chimes the current number of hours and then goes back inside the case and closes the door behind him; fascinating! The clock works just fine here, keeps good time, and cuckoos as it was designed to do. Keep in mind this is an old clock and we don't know the full service history though it looks to have had past maintenance. Nonetheless, some adjustments or repairs may be necessary once the clock arrives at its new home. We always advise our clock customers to service their vintage or antique clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preserve a classic clock like this one and keep it running strong for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a hand carved wooden chalet pendulum, and two heavy pinecone shaped metal weights.

Ive looked the clock over fairly well and cant find any damage or repairs. It has only average or less wear and is in great shape; absolutely gorgeous on display! This is an impressive clock and the ideal size too measuring about 7 1/2" at its highest point, about 5 1/2" or so at its deepest point, and about 8 1/2 at its widest point. This clock is a collection all by itself and is certain to impress anyone seeing it in your home, office or wherever it is that you care to showcase a very nice, unusual mechanical Swiss timepiece with a solid history behind it.
