We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally impressive collection of music boxes and other very nice antique and vintage collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our. This is an outstanding find of a lightly used, mint condition, absolutely beautiful, mechanical cuckoo clock that was created about 20 years ago in the Black Forest of "Triberg, Germany" by "Hubert Herr, " one of the finest clock makers in this region of the world. It is a stunning clock and looks to have been designed to look very much like an intricately carved grape vine featuring five, large, intricately carved wooden grape leaves on the front and some enhanced vining branches too. There is also a deeply hand carved wooden bird perched in the fancy branches atop the clock looking as though he's ready to take flight.

All of the trim and carvings are deep and wavy and have a wonderful walnut finish, lavished with hand painted flowers! It is a most impressive clock and among the nicest I've seen.

It measures about 10" high (not counting the weights or pendulum), about 6" at its deepest point, and about 7 at its widest point. The clock is carved from cured and aged Linden wood which is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. The wooden dial has a woodtone backdrop and features Roman numerals to mark the hours and matching fancy hands to point out the time. The "Hubert Herr" name appears in block letters above center and the country name, "Made in Germany" appears just below the center of the dial. The back is wood too and secured with a metal latch.

The back removes to allow access to the mechanical weight driven movement produced by and bearing the Hubert Herr name and Triberg, Germany point of origin. A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock and cuckoo activity. The bellow or whistle tubes are intact and the tops look and sound good too. At the bottom of each hour, a colorful wooden bird opens the small door above the dial and stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a coiled cathedral chime inside the case and then retreats back inside and closes the door. The bird reappears at the top of the hour and correctly cuckoos and chimes the current number of hours and then goes back inside the case and closes the door behind him; fascinating! There is a metal lever on the left side of the case that allows you to disable the cuckoo activity and chime as you wish which is a great feature for light sleepers or when company is in town.

There is also a Certificate of Authenticity on the left side of the case certifying this is a genuine "Black Forest" Cuckoo clock. Keep in mind that even though the clock looks newer, it is still an old clock and we don't know the service history though the movement does show signs of maintenance and really no signs of use. Nonetheless, we always advise our clock customers to service their vintage or antique clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preserve a classic clock like this one and keep it running strong for years to come.

The clock comes complete as shown with two sets of attached golden metal chains, a wooden grape leaf pendulum, and two heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. Ive looked the clock over fairly well and can't find any damage, missing pieces, or signs of use... And the clock is just gorgeous on display!

This clock is a wonderful look back at the greatness of Black Forest workmanship and is certain to capture the imagination of anyone seeing it in your home, office or wherever it is that you care to showcase a wonderful, mechanical German timepiece with a solid history behind it.
